In a recount of the April 2 election for Canton selectman, Michael Loughran increased his margin — from one vote to three — to win a two-year vacant seat on the board in a busy election week that brought voters out in Avon, Dedham, Rockland, and Stoughton.
The final tally in Canton gave Loughran 1,034 votes to Lisa Lopez’s 1,031 and James Quigley’s 970. Lopez had asked for the April 13 recount after the original results showed her losing by one vote.
The recount, the first in Canton in years, went smoothly, according to Town Clerk Tracy Kenney. The top two candidates attended and brought observers and attorneys, she said.
In Dedham, two women defeated two men for two open seats on the Board of Selectmen. Sarah MacDonald (who is not related to board chair James MacDonald) led the field with 2,408 votes, followed closely by Dimitria Sullivan with 2,359.
Carmen E. Dello Iacono Jr. came in third with 1,209 votes, and William J. Ralph was last, with 1,095, in the April 13 election.
In Avon, Selectmen chair Steven P. Rose held on to his seat, defeating John Walker Kelley Jr., 284 to 224.
The race was the only contested one in the April 9 election, which drew about an 11 percent turnout, according to the town clerk’s office.
Rockland’s April 13 election had no contests. Selectmen Larry J. Ryan and Richard Penney remained in office.
In Stoughton, voters ousted incumbent selectman Richard C. Hill — replacing him with past board member Joseph M. Mokrisky. The vote was 1,049 to 931 in the April 9 election, according to the town clerk’s office.
Incumbent Redevelopment Authority member Michael F. Barrett also lost his seat — to challenger Mark Zamanian, who had 941 votes to Barrett’s 874. Stoughton voters opted, however, to keep incumbent School Committee members Anita Hill and Joseph McDonough in a contested election for two seats. Hill received 1,162 votes; McDonough 1,086; and challenger Erdem A. Ural had 789.
There were 1,019 blank ballots recorded.
